Change Boot order in Fedora 17 – Grub2

If your are using dual boot OS – Windows 7 and Fedora, you will find Fedora as default OS. Now if you want Windows 7 to be be your default OS then you will have make some changes in grub2 requiring few commands to be run.

This Guide applies to Fedora 17

1. Find menu entry for Windows OS. Open terminal log in to root and run

cat /boot/grub2/grub.cfg |grep Windows

Output of this command will be
menuentry “Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda1)” ………………………………………………

2. Make Windows as default menuentry. Run below command

grub2-set-default "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda1)"

3. Update grub.cfg. Run command

grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

Reboot your PC. Now Windows will be your default OS.
